A soft substance made up of bacteria will harden into" tartar" also known as "calculus" , if not properly removed from the teeth , the bacteria will feed on sugars from food and drinks, producing acids which attach to the teeth causing both tooth decay and gum disease. Thus calculus needs to be removed by your dentist by either hand or electronic instruments "scaling", polishing is then done after scaling to remove surface stains. |
